Hanging Vine Curtain Sketch

The goal of this three week long assignment is for each team of students to completely redesign the envelope of the Brookhaven College Science Building with a creative solution, calling out materials selections and composing these selections into a design of new facades. I chose to use white polished concrete and the GSKY Green Wall system because the concrete withstands the Texas heat and the green wall plants absorb the heat so the building does not have to use as much energy to cool the building. In addition to these materials, I also incorporated photovoltaic windows my Onyx Solar to take advantage of the Texas sun and hanging vine curtains on the north and south facade to create a walkway for students while also shading the building creating an interesting lighting affect through the windows. To balance the light that enters the interior rooms and the location of a green wall I took into consideration what rooms could afford to lose the light from specific orientation. With the inspiration from Patrick Blanc, I created the style of the green walls and how each would be shaped.
