This three week long project explored 3D composition fundamentals, the relationship between positive and negative space, surface manipulation, and the making of space. The final products are a series of 4 preliminary 5”x5”x5” models and one final 10”x10”x10” model. The models must demonstrate fine wood working skills and novel methods of jointery. For my design, I began with an abstract shape that took the form of a “w” and designed many different models incorporating that idea. For my final model, I chose to use two formal manipulations to create space and they were subtraction and frame. Through models and axonometric drawings, I show how I created space within a cube.
